Additional NIHL Tryout Details

  • When you arrive at the rink for each tryout, please check in at the table in the lobby. Each player will be issued a numbered pullover. Please keep and wear the pullover at each tryout skate, and return it in the lobby after the last tryout.
  • Tryouts are closed to help keep distractions for players to a minimum. Only participating hockey directors, coaches, and players will be allowed in the rink while tryouts are taking place. Parents can wait for their player in the warm room upstairs or in the lobby. If your player needs your assistance with getting dressed or tying skates, please allow enough time to have your player fully dressed and ready for the ice prior to the start of the tryout. Any player requiring a parent’s assistance that arrives after tryouts have started or are about to start will be asked to dress in the other rink.
  • Tryouts will include skills, skating, and game situations at the coaches’ discretion to make team decisions.
  • Please check the website throughout tryouts for updated information on group assignments, times, and other details. Team selections will be posted online within 48 hours of the last tryout skate for each age level.
  • After team selections are announced, new NIHL players will receive an e-mail from the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois (AHAI) to confirm they are choosing to play for a Tier II team and that they understand the AHAI Tier II Two Choice rule.
  • Bantam players, including goalies, will be required to participate in a two-hour checking clinic prior to playing in games. The cost of the checking clinic is included in the season fees.
