USA Hockey introduced the American Development Model (ADM) to provide a defined, systematic approach to developing athletes to increase skill, enjoyment, and proficiency. The Program was implemented after an extensive international study by USAH of educators, child development experts, coaches from many different sports, physiologists and National Sports Federations.
The USA Hockey ADM is an all-inclusive program for players learning the game all the way through elite athletes competing at the professional level. It includes on-ice, off-ice, in-season and off-season curriculum for producing a well-balanced, complete athlete. The ADM defines age-approrpriate training and concepts to ensure proper skill development for each age level. In addition, improved coaching techniques and referee development are addressed in the program.
The Admirals Hockey Club continues to support and embed the principles of the American Development Model (ADM) into the practice plans for all levels and leagues. Our in-house Mighty Mite program follows the guidelines and concepts for Mite development.
Listen as the Boston Bruins and local Division I college coaches discuss the ADM model of player development.
The ADMirals United Pilot Program for the 2012-13 season will include teams at the Pee Wee and Squirt levels. These teams will focus on age-appropriate coaching and the maximization of player development, in alignment with USA Hockey’s American Development Model and emphasis on Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD). See the ADMirals United team pages for additional details.
Instead of entering into NIHL or NWHL, these teams will follow the ADM protocol of practices to games ratio (3:1). On-ice practices will be station-based and will emphasize hockey skills & habits, hockey concepts & awareness, and team play training. Off-ice training and video/chalk talk will also be part of the practice plans. Games will be played through tournaments (primarily local) and practice games with other Clubs throughout the season.
The coaching staff for the ADMirals United Pilot Program includes Craig Porazinski, Jerry Culp, Kurt Gawley, and Mike Zerafa.
New ADMirals United registrations are being accepted on a waitlist basis. If you have questions, please contact sgawley@admiralshockeyclub.com.
